'Boat Turns Towards The Port' taken from gothic singer's second album Narrow

Austrian singer/songwriter Anja Plaschg, aka Soap&Skin, is releasing her second album on March 19th. Entitled Narrow, it’s the follow up to 2008’s rather lovely Lovetune For Vacuum, a set of very gothic torch songs composed largely of spidery piano, electronics and Plaschg’s thick, double-tracked vocals. Now 21 (she was still a teenager when she recorded her debut), her new album features a cover of Desireless’ Europop hit ‘Voyage Voyage’, and was also apparently inspired by the sudden death of her father in 2009.

One of its songs, ‘Boat Turns Towards The Port’, is now available to listen to below, accompanied by some thoroughly mesmerising footage of an exploding rocket making a huge arc into the air before dropping miles to the ground. It’s of the same ilk as her first album, complete with percussion that collapses like someone falling down a flight of stairs.

Narrow is released through PIAS on March 19th, and Plaschg plays at London’s Scala on 11th April.
