LISTEN: Rene Hell – Meta Concrete

Cut from forthcoming album with Oneohtrix Point Never

Last week we reported the announcement of Rene Hell’s split release with Oneohtrix Point Never, Music For Reliquary House/In 1980 I Was A Blue Square out on September 17 via NNA Tapes. Hell, aka Jeff Witscher has now generously put a stream up of a cut from the album for your listening pleasure:

Entitled ‘Meta Concrete’ the track features a mixture of abrasive and soothing sounds, gentle reflective piano juxtaposed by grating static atmospheres and glitchy electronics. These intrusive electronic soundscapes slowly build up over the opening two minutes of the piece, before settling back into Hauschka-esque arpeggiating piano melodies, vaguely reminiscent of something you might expect to hear in a film like Amélie but with a more haunting, mournful edge.
