LISTEN: Percussions – ‘Birdsong’

A new grubby techno track from mystery producer on Four Tet's label

Kieran Hebden’s Text label has been doing some interesting things this year, with especially his own tracks as Four Tet becoming increasingly proficient at moving dancefloors in a swung, two-steppy kind of style. He’s been spending more time DJing as well, which has involved sets all over the place and a recent appearance on Hessle Audio’s Rinse FM show, where he dropped a new track by Percussions, scheduled for release on Text. Entitled ‘Birdsong’, you can listen to it below. It’s a grubby and driving techno track, but shares definite sensibilities with Four Tet’s own work – given its similar use of acoustic sound sources and generally hand-crafted feel, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was Hebden himself in disguise. Either way it’s very good, and out on Monday to buy from your local record emporium, backed by the yet-more-abstract ‘Rabbit Songs’.
