Tomaga are set to release their latest EP via Kaya Kaya Records next month, arriving off the back of their second album released last September. Above, from the EP, you can listen to ‘Liberating Mania’, exclusively via tQ.
The new EP came about when the pair returned home from recording their 2016 album in Tuscany and acquired a marimba on arrival back in London, which they decided to put to use resulting in the above track. They describe it as having unleashed a "tuned percussion journey", with the other new track on the new EP finding them in more ambient territory, still putting to use percussion but stripping back the energy.
The EP also includes remixed by Shit & Shine and Cavern Of Antimatter and will be released on May 5. Meanwhile, Tomaga are taking part in shows as part of The Can Project, alongside Irmin Schmidt, Thurston Moore and many others. They play London’s Barbican tonight as part of that project.
"I guess for most musicians, as far as arrangements, production and songwriting, it’s impossible to ignore the importance and the influence of such a band," Tomaga have said of the shows as part of The Can Project. "I don’t think it reckless stating that their musical legacy will keep influencing generations to come. We are extremely honoured to be part of this project together with a string of incredible musicians."
