Norwegian musician and Jenny Hval collaborator Susanna will release her 11th album in April marking her first solo record since 2012. Ahead of its release, we’re offering you the chance to listen to the album’s first single, ‘Burning Sea’, above right now.
‘Burning Sea’ is about “the experience of giving in to something, surrender, and feeling trapped at the same time, both wonderful and dangerous,” says Susanna. “I wrote this song in LA where a lot of the material for the album came to life. I am very fascinated by the sunny, beautiful and urban in combination with the pumping undercurrents of creativity in that city.”
In the past, the singer has radically reinterpreted songs by Joy Division, AC/DC and many more and, in 2014, released Meshes of Voice alongside Jenny Hval. This new album, entitled Triangle, features contributions from a number of Norwegian musicians, including Supersilent and Broen, as well as American collaborators in the form of Alison Chesley of Helen Money and Emmett Kelly of The Cairo Gang. The album is out on April 22 via SusannaSonata and Susanna will play London’s Café Oto just ahead of its release on April 19.
