With the release of her debut album having come in the last year, Sasha Siem is wasting no time in moving on, announcing the release of her second album, entitled Bird Burning, for this June. Above, you can listen to ‘Crow’ taken from the album right now.
The five-track album will come backed with a remix suite by producer Rabit. She started work on the album after setting out to learn more about her family’s roots in the wake of the release of her debut, Most of the Boys, last summer. She discovered a connection with the Sami people, the indigenous people of Northern Scandinavia. "The Sami don’t sing songs about things or people or places; they invoke them," says Siem. "So they sing a bird, rather than about or to a bird. This was a total shift in what music-making was about for me, and Bird Burning is the result of that transformation." The album is out on June 17 and Siem plays London’s Kings Place on April 11.
