Upstepping, the new mini-album by the London-based cellist, composer and producer Oliver Coates, premiered above, combines intricate, Photek-esque percussion with staccato strings and warm, cyclical vocal samples.
Released this Friday (May 13) via PRAH Recordings, the album was composed and produced in several locations around the world, over a period of significant personal change for Coates. The record represents a further attempt by the composer to bridge the gap between his classical discipline and his intimate relationship with dance music.
Oliver will be presenting the new material as well as other tracks in a live setting later this month as part of our showcase, alongside the Houndstooth label, at Brighton’s The Great Escape. You can get tickets for the festival, which takes place from May 19-21, here.
