Manchester’s PINS are readying the 14th release on their own Haus Of PINS label and it will feature contributions from tQ favourites Jupiter-C, Kyogen and Dream Wife. The release, entitled MYTHS, marks the label’s first collective EP and you can watch a video, directed by Sapphire Goss, for Jupiter-C’s contribution to the EP, ‘Insect Eyes’, above.
‘Insect Eyes’ is self-recorded and produced by the band, Ashiya Eastwood and David Kane. Eastwood says the track is based on "one of JG Ballard’s earliest short stories, ‘Prima Belladonna’. It’s a surreal piece of sci-fi centred around a shop that sells singing plants which can be switched on or off, and one plant in particular which can sing in 24 octaves and helps to keep all the other plants in tune." The song came about from an entirely different track which the duo wrote and recorded before scrapping it. "Ashiya bounced the whole track and reversed it as an experiment. All the riffs and the structure that you hear in the track now are back-to-front versions of what they were originally intended to be," says Kane.
All bands featured on the EP will play alongside PINS at London’s The Lexington on May 27. Tickets for that show can be bought here, while MYTHS is out on May 25 and can be pre-ordered here.
