A week today (June 15) It Hugs Back will release their fourth LP, Slow Wave. Led by the songwriting and guitar of Wire’s Matthew Simms, the album is available to stream in full above.
The album was initially recorded live by the full band in order to knuckle down the rhythms that form the record’s basis over the course of a long period of recording in their own Kent studio. Simms and Jack Theedom (responsible for keyboards and vocals) then gradually built up various layers of guitars and synthesisers “before sending the whole lot through their vast collection of old tape delays and phasers – set to slow!” Over the course of recording this record, Simms has also worked with Wire on their self-titled album (released in April), mixed an album for Chastity Belt, provided guitar on a new record from Bill Fay and recorded a solo EP as Slows. You can pre-order Slow Wave directly from It Hugs Back here.
