Polish producer Hatti Vatti is set to release SZUM, a full-length concept record later this month on the MOST Records label, and above, we have a stream of one of its tracks, ‘Hikikomori’.
"’Hikikomori’ is a Japanese term for reclusive adolescents; kind of modern-day hermits," says the producer. "Withdrawal from social life is one of the themes throughout my album. ‘Hikikomori’ is my favorite track from the album, and I treat it as the definitive sound of Hatti Vatti, AD 2017. The track samples the Sequential Circuits Prophet 6 sent via a weird Wem Reverbmaster with built-in Hammond spring reverb, made in the late 60s. It’s a very old school, rare and crazy sounding mixer.
"This tune also contains some recordings from E7 Studio in Reykjavík, Iceland – more precisely my recordings of Korg PS-3100, a truly amazing instrument made in late 70s, owned by Kiasmos’ Ólafur Arnalds. It’s a very unique, fully fledged polyphonic synthesiser where all 48 keys could be played at once and articulated independently of each other."
The record sees the producer combining a vast array of samples with his set-up of hardware and other tools, creating a record that covers numerous sounds, operating at times between ambient and bass-heavy genres such as footwork and juke. SZUM is out on March 24 and can be pre-ordered here.
