Since its debut release in 2014, Mumdance and Logos’ Different Circles imprint has been pursuing an alternative take on the instrumental grime-influenced sounds of Boxed, placing its focus firmly on sub-bass and minimalism – or as they call it the weightless sound – through releases from Rabit, Strict Face and Logos himself among others.
The label’s fourth release sees them pushing further still in this direction with a 12" from 1-800 Dinosaur affiliate Airhead whose track ‘Kazzt’ features alongside a remix from Mumdance which can be heard exclusively above right now. Mumdance strips down the rattling bass and minimal components of Airhead’s original into something even more abstract, punctuated by metallic, punchy drums, sampled bird chirps and expert use of space.
"Kazzt is another milestone in the linage of our discography and is another very important step towards slowly carving out the different circles “sound," says Mumdance, "stripping things down to the very bare bones and focusing on sonics, weight and disorientation."
Airhead’s Kazzt arrives in limited vinyl-only format on July 22 via Different Circles and can be pre-ordered here.
