Mosca has been one of the most consistent producers to emerge from the UK’s post-dubstep/house morass over the last couple of years, with each of his releases finding him tackling a form that’s totally different from the last. If you’ve spent any time on club floors over the past 18 months, you’ll remember his ridiculously catchy ‘Bax’ – it grabbed bassline house and speed garage, roughly smashed them together and upped the tempo to breakneck pace.
Well, earlier this year Katy B – whose On A Mission album last year was one of our favourites of 2011, a smart and supple fusion of UK dance genres from across the board – started adding vocals to ‘Bax’ during her UK tour. Rinse and Mosca have now seen fit to re-record her version as ‘What You Came For’, which is somewhere between Mosca’s original (re-tooled a bit) and another one of those distinctive Katy B club songs about going clubbing. You can listen to it via the embed above. It’s released via Rinse on 22nd October.
