LISTEN: New Morgan Zarate

Hyperdub with a pop twist, on this upcoming single from Morgan Zarate, featuring vocals from Stevie Neale

2012 has found Kode9’s Hyperdub label, originally known for their early dubstep 12"s, continuing to expand their remit into electronic pop, with recent albums from Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland, Laurel Halo and Cooly G all offering distinctive and dubbed-out takes on songwriting.

Now they’ve revealed a track from the new upcoming single from Morgan Zarate, last seen releasing the Hookid EP through the label in 2010. Where that found the former Spacek member offering frazzled, bass-clogged takes on R&B, here he takes on the poppier end of dubstep. The results are pretty lovely – the track, entitled ‘Broken Heart Collector’, pairs a fizzy, incredibly detailed production from Zarate with vocals from London-born singer Stevie Neale. You can listen to the track and watch the video, directed by unsung.nu, above.
