Matmos, the duo of M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel who have been responsible for a vast array of weird and wonderful experimental electronic music over the past two decades – often convincingly blurring the boundaries between hilarious, seedy and deeply unsettling – have signed to Thrill Jockey for the release of their new album, The Marriage Of True Minds which will come out next year.
First in line, though, is the Ganzfield EP, which will land on October 15th, and features two original tracks by the duo plus a remix by ace techno head Rrose (last seen tearing dancefloors to shreds on the Sandwell District label, both solo and in collaboration with Bob Ostertag). If the duo’s show at Queen Elizabeth Hall last night was anything to go by – see these pages for a review, due to be published imminently – then the new album and EP should be every bit as strange, intense, funny and incendiary as usual. For a taster, the label are giving away ‘Very Large Green Triangles (Edit)’, the first track from the EP – listen and download below.
