Not Not Fun-signed noisy disco/pop producer Maria Minerva is set to release her third album through the label Will Happiness Find Me? on September 4th. It’s the follow-up to last year’s acclaimed Cabaret Cixous, a deep and aquatic trip of a record that sunk its rhythms so far into the mix that they came out as mere reverberation.
Her one release since, the Sacred & Profane Love EP, lost some of that album’s hazy charm in favour of languid but slightly aimless house tracks. However, judging by the first track to emerge from the album, ‘The Sound’, Will Happiness Find Me? looks set to continue along similarly thoughtful and idiosyncratic routes as its full-length predecessor. You can listen and download the song at Gorilla Vs. Bear.
"I never thought I would end up producing something I’d call ‘house’," said Minerva of her approach in an interview with the Quietus last year, "but I think the crossover between genres is amazing. This is the point where interesting stuff is about to come from nowadays. . . . Dance music seems like it has arrived at a safe place, it sounds brilliant and clear, but maybe it should have a bit more quirk."
Also in the pipeline for Minerva is a collaborative record with NNF/100% Silk boss Amanda Brown’s LA Vampires, entitled The Integration, which is due to drop some time in the autumn.
