LISTEN: New Luke Abbott

Crafter of Holkham Drones turns his hand to a skippy house-ish rhythm on new EP

Luke Abbott, producer of airy Border Community-styled melodic techno, has announced the release of a new EP through Gold Panda’s label Notown. Entitled Modern Driveway, it’s set for release on May 28th, and marks the follow-up to Abbott’s well-received 2010 album Holkham Drones. We’ve been given the title track to stream – see below – and if it’s any indication we can expect a slight upward shift in his music’s energy on the EP; listening to its skippy percussion and soft synth stabs, it’s hard not to suspect that Abbott’s been spending some quality time with some of the UK’s more recent bass-heavy dance music mutations. But there’s a cosier feel to ‘Modern Driveway’ that strips it of rudeness in favour of a rather softer take on a house music template; not too far from Mr. Panda himself, in fact.
