Prolific songsmith Aidan Moffat has announced a new album under his L. Pierre moniker: The Island Come True (artwork above) will be out on January 14 via Melodic, and we’ve got an early preview in the form of LP cut ‘Doctor Alucard’:
The Island Come True will be the fourth L. Pierre record and draws on the same mammoth bank of field recordings as previous album Dip, which are then matched to reference points as diverse as Peter Pan (the album title), John Carpenter and Buddhism.
The result is a wheeling collage of samples, significantly not given the sonic clean-up treatment. Says Moffat: “Everything sounds so clean and clinical and perfect today, but I love hearing something that sounds worn and suggests the music has a history. It’s gorgeous and sad at once, as though it’s lived a life and survived to tell the tale.”
