Making good on last week’s stirrings, Justin Timberlake has just posted his new song online – have a listen to ‘Suit & Tie’, featuring a verse by Jay-Z, over at his website here.
The track’s our first taste of the forthcoming album The 20/20 Experience, set to drop later this year via RCA. It’s a straight-ahead good times cut, extolling the pleasures of "getting all dressed up in black and white" and playing in the vein of ‘Rock Your Body’, with Jackson 5-esque guitars chopping over a Timbaland beat, which rolls out to an intricate, brilliant coda. It’s no ‘Cry Me A River’, but Timberlake’s perfectionist attention to detail is self-evident, which can only augur good things to come.
In an open letter accompanying the track, Timberlake writes: "Back in June of last year, I quietly started working on what is now, my next journey with that thing I love called MUSIC.
"The inspiration for this really came out of the blue and to be honest, I didn’t expect anything out of it. I just went into the studio and started playing around with some sounds and songs. It was probably the best time I’ve had in my career… Just creating with no rules and/or end goal in mind and really enjoying the process.
"What I came up with is something I couldn’t be more excited about! It is full of inspiration that I grew up listening to and some newfound muses that I’ve discovered along the way."
