LISTEN: House Of Black Lanterns Mix

Dylan 'King Cannibal' Richards changes name and launches new label - listen to new mix below

Dylan Richards, the artist until recently known as King Cannibal (and who turned in an excellent mix for us last year), has changed his name to the equally sinister House Of Black Lanterns. This new project promises "a defined change in vision and style” and will be focused on visuals alongside music. King Cannibal will apparently remain a going concern in the live arena for the time being, though Richards has no plans to record any new material under that name.

Having released his last album Let The Night Roar through Ninja Tune in 2010, and recently remixed a track from Bjork’s Biophilia, Richards has taken on his House Of Black Lanterns guise for the forthcoming release of a new full-length LP through Convex Industries (the label owned by former Instra:mental man Damon Kirkham, aka Jon Convex). He is also working with Dadub, the production duo who also handle in-house mastering for Berlin’s Stroboscopic Artefacts label.

Says the man himself of this new move: "House Of Black Lanterns is firstly about suspense, space and depth. More restrained than anything I have worked on before, the threat of violence is buried in deep texture rather than worn of my sleeve. Space is important to this project, both in terms of the space within these productions and the creative space. House Of Black Lanterns will be an evolving experiment bringing in shifting contributors. I’m excited to share the birth of this project, as it has been my primary focus for the last year and is my sole priority."

Richards has also announced the launch of his own new label, named Shock & Desire, though there’s no information yet about its coming release schedule. More news when we have it, but in the meantime he’s given us another rather tasty mix to host, which you can stream via the embed at the top. It features new material from Richards himself alongside jacking techno and house from the likes of A Made Up Sound, Barker & Baumecker, Thomas Bangalter and more.
