Building up to this year’s Field Day, held on May 25 in Victoria Park, London, here’s a new episode of Field Day Radio – have a listen below:
As well as tracks from line-up artists How To Dress Well, Charlie Boyer And The Voyeurs and Tim Burgess and more, there are also interviews with Chvrches and Mulatu Astatke, who’ll be on the the Quietus-curated Village Mentality stage.
Astatke talks about his early musical training in London and the future of his Ethio-jazz genre, as well as where he looks for influence: "To tell you the truth, I stopped listening to music for a long time, because I have this thing I call my own music – the Ethio Jazz. See, the problem is, by listening to other music, I don’t want to be influenced, with other music, with other material. I’d rather listen more to tradition, to roots music in the bushes and those kinds of things, I do search a lot for that type of music instead of listening to the present."
