LISTEN: Eccentronic Research Council EP

ERC release a new EP ahead of forthcoming album and 7" single

Ahead of the release of the Eccentronic Research Council’s Dreamcatcher Tapes (Volume 1) album and a new 7" single, the electronic orchestrators have released a new digital EP, excellently-titled Bun Fight In The Open University Staff Room (artwork above).

The EP is a mixture of intricate synth work and well-placed found sounds, tape recordings and other miscellaneous atmospheric noises. Moving from dreamlike ambient experimentations to hardware-driven industrialism, the EP inventively genre-hops throughout. Take a listen below:

The Dreamcatcher Tapes (Volume 1) will be released on the ERC’s own D.I.Y label Desolate Spools next month on a very limited edition cassette, and features the recorded voices of ten people retelling the stories of their dreams and nightmares, all soundtracked by the band. Says ERC’s Adrian Flanagan: "It sounds like a psychedelic journey through the subconscious, soundtracked by John Carpenter and remixed by Delia Derbyshire whilst riding a drunk three-legged horse… It’s dead good".

The band will also be joining forces again with long-term collaborator Maxine Peake for a 7" single and promise "a special little thing from Pye Audio Corner" – stay tuned for further updates.
