LISTEN: Conquering Animal Sound

Opening track of forthcoming album, On Floating Bodies, from the Scottish electronic duo

Glasgow’s Conquering Animal Sound have a new album on the way, On Floating Bodies, their first for Chemikal Underground, set for release on March 18 – have a listen to the opening track, fantastically titled ‘Ultimate Heat Death Of The Universe’:

It’s CAS’s second LP, following on from 2011’s Kammerspiel, and is of a decidedly scientific bent. Along with the track above (cast a glance look over the diagram below, which the duo handily posted on their blog to accompany the track, while listening), the album’s title comes from "Archimedes’ groundbreaking treatise on hydrostatics" (no, we haven’t read it either, but it sounds mighty impressive).

Part strobing synth-pop, part jagged, snowballing sound-collision, the track rightly feels like the end-product of the 18-month experimentation and in-depth exploration of "cosmology, science, philosophy and semantics" the group’s Anneke Kampman and James Scott undertook in writing the album.

CAS are playing a handful of dates this month in the lead-up to the LP’s release:

FEBRUARY

Tue 25 – The Ruby Lounge, Manchester

Wed 26 – Thekla, Bristol

Thu 27 – ICA, London
