With names such as Hodge, the Livity Sound crew and Batu as well as the scene emerging around record shops like Idle Hands and labels such as Hotline, the Brizzle bass and techno scene is currently in very good health. An emerging name from that scene is Lurka who last year put out an excellent debut EP with Black Acre. Now, he’s following that up with another release on the label, made up of two tracks. You can stream one of those tracks, ‘Mach’, premiering above, now.
Built for maximum dancefloor effect, ‘Mach’ charges forward with its hollow drums and moody, woozy melody gliding along on top, much like the EP’s other track, ‘Partials’. With two releases on Black Acre now to his name as well as associations with the aforementioned Hotline label and cosigns from a number of other fine producers of similar bass and techno-informed sounds, Lurka is definitely a producer to keep an eye on. The new EP is out on July 20 and you can catch Lurka supporting Machinedrum at Dalston’s Birthdays on August 15. Tickets for that will be available very soon.
