New York synth/dance duo Blondes have surprise released their second full-length album Swisher this week. Rather than go through a lengthy teaser campaign they’ve opted to make it immediately available digitally, with a vinyl version to follow at the beginning of August. It’s being released via RVNG Intl, who only a couple of weeks ago released Stellar OM Source’s great latest album Joy One Mile, and the label have immediately made a full stream of the album available. Swisher marks the follow up to last year’s self-titled debut, which we described as an album whose "fun is in its simple hypnotism, a Technicolor tumble of programmed loops and live instrumentation, melodies that seem so much to the fore as they’re happening but disappear into the ether at the record’s finish." This new album was apparently inspired by playing live on large sound systems in the wake of that first record’s release, and its dense, gauzy house tracks nod towards Kompakt-style semi-ambient techno, Berlin dub techno and classic cosmic synth music.
