LISTEN: Ben UFO At Dommune

Download a 70 minute recording of Hessle Audio co-founder's set at Tokyo's Dommune club

Hessle Audio co-founder Ben UFO is renowned for being one of the UK’s more adventurous DJs, both for his club sets – which cross borders between house, techno, dubstep, grime and all manner of other styles – and his broad-minded selections for his label’s weekly show on Rinse FM, which frequently showcase ambient, noise and synthesiser music in addition to dancefloor-focused selections.

What with his Rinse shows providing an ongoing archive of his musical excursions, recordings of his club mixes are comparatively rare, which makes this recording of the opening 70 minutes of his recent set at Tokyo’s Dommune all the more rewarding a listen. And doubly so because it finds him selecting right across the board, opening with a beatless 20 minutes before slowly escalating into rough-round-the-edges deep house, techno and more, all mixed in suitably seamless, immersive fashion. It’s been made available via Rainbow Disco Club, the festival who booked him to play, and you can listen and download via the embed below.

Says Ben in a quote accompanying the mix: "I played at Dommune the night that I arrived [in Tokyo], not having slept properly for 36 hours and feeling slightly out of my depth – it ended up being a hugely memorable experience in one of the most welcoming and musically open-minded environments I’ve come across. I could have played anything."
