Light In The Attic is releasing a tribute album to Lou Reed.
Out in April, The Power Of The Heart: A Tribute To Lou Reed takes in 12 covers of the late artist’s work by artists who were friends and fans of his. The tracks featured span some of his best-known songs – such as ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ and ‘Perfect Day’ – and lesser-known ones from his time as part of The Velvet Underground to his career as a solo artist.
Among the acts who have covered songs for the album are Keith Richards, The Afghan Whigs, Maxim Ludwig & Angel Olsen, Rufus Wainwright, and Lucinda Williams. You can watch a video for Richards’ cover of ‘I’m Waiting For The Man’ above.
The album will be released on limited edition Silver Nugget vinyl as part of this year’s Record Store Day on April 20, while there will also be a CD and digital release on the same day. All physical formats of the record will come with photos of Reed and extensive liner notes by producer Bill Bentley, who worked closely with the late artist for over 25 years.
The tribute album release follows on from Light In The Attic reissuing Reed’s final solo LP, Hudson River Wind Meditations, at the start of this year. The label began a series of archival explorations of his work in 2022.
Light In The Attic will release The Power Of The Heart: A Tribute To Lou Reed on April 20, 2024.
