Liars’ Angus Andrew Launches Own Label, NO GOLD

He's also announced a New York edition of his Essential Tremors festival

Liars’ Angus Andrew has launched his own label, called NO GOLD.

The imprint’s first release, Essential Tremors Sydney 2022, will be made available digitally and in a 4xCD set. It collects live recordings from the likes of YL Hooi, Shoeb Ahmad, Chunyin, Del Lumanta, Clare Cooper, ∑GG√E|N, Cindy Chen, Salllvage and Wytchings, which were captured at the three-day Essential Tremors festival that Andrew curated at Phoenix Central Park, Australia, in March 2022. Andrew’s curation of the festival which birthed Essential Tremors Sydney 2022 was born from a desire to explore a new musical community while he was living in Australia, according to press materials. "I felt like I needed to connect with other artists and if at all possible, empower them," he said in a statement. "I was surprised by how important it felt to help uncover and expose the wealth of talented experimental musicians. And yeah, my mindset hasn’t changed since being back in America – it’s just broadened to a more global one."

In addition to launching NO GOLD and announcing its inaugural release, Andrew has also confirmed plans for a New York edition of Essential Tremors on October 21. Taking place at Brooklyn’s Knockdown Center, it will feature performances from Liars, MELT-BANANA, No Age, YL Hooi and more. Tickets for the event go on sale at 12pm EST on Friday (August 5). Speaking about NO GOLD and Essential Tremors, Andrew said: "We’re in the midst of a major cultural shift, not only within the music and arts community, but throughout society. Outdated and unfair systems are finally being uprooted and I’m excited to search for real, equitable and sustainable solutions." Plans for future editions of the festival in London, Tokyo, Seoul and Los Angeles are said to be in the works.

NO GOLD will release Essential Tremors Sydney 2022 on October 21, 2022.
