Lena Willikens takes in unreleased and personal favourites on her entry to Dekmantel's Selectors compilation series

Following on from the likes of Marcel Dettmann and Joy Orbison, Lena Willikens steps up to helm the fifth edition of Dekmantel’s Selectors compilation series.

Taking in music from the likes of JASSS, Richard H. Kirk’s Sandoz project and Borusiade, amongst others, the compilation sees Willikens choose a number of personal older favourites to sit alongside unreleased music from friends and associates.

"I’ve been playing most of these songs for a while now," she explains of the tracklist. "I benefit from my friends and colleagues who constantly send me their unreleased music. Now I want to give something back by sharing these tracks with everybody."

Making a point of mostly avoiding expensive and rare older records in her picks, Willikens says that "there are already enough passionate people out there doing a great job digging and reissuing". Instead, she describes the mood of the compilation as something akin to a "little trip through the dunes," adding: "It might be challenging to walk or dance on the sand, so perhaps it’s more comfortable to lay down and glide along without having a certain destination in mind."

Lena Willikens’ Selectors compilation is out digitally and on vinyl on April 16. To pre-order and check the full tracklist, head here.
