Len’s Laughing As ‘Hallelujah’ Sells A Million

X Factor cover shifts plenty units

One wonders if there are enough choice fedoras in the world on which the maestro Leonard Cohen can spend all the money he’s made in the past year. For that pesky tax bill from the IRS, and the impecunious state in which he was left after his manager ran off with all his loot, are surely now resolved with cents to spare.

X Factor winner Alexandra Burke’s cover of ‘Hallelujah’ has joined a list of only ten other songs to have sold over one million copies since the millennium, according the NME.

Meanwhile, in other ‘Hallelujah’-related news, Jeff Buckley’s warbling version seems to have renewed interest in the drowned singer, with a reissue of his greatest hits out in a couple of weeks. As the current issue of Private Eye points out, there’s one man who is standing up and praising to the heavens with even more gusto than Len – X Factor’s dark mastermind Simon Cowell’s Sony BMG controls the publishing to Buckley’s back catalogue.
