Lee “Scratch” Perry’s Final Studio LP Set For Posthumous Release

The late dub music legend worked on 'King Perry' up until his death in 2021

The final studio album by Lee "Scratch" Perry, titled King Perry, is set to be released in early 2024.

Spanning 12 tracks, the record takes in guest contributions from Tricky, Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder and Greentea Peng, among others. Perry wrote, produced and recorded the album with collaborator Daniel Boyle in the months leading up to his death in 2021. You can listen to the Greentea Peng-featuring lead cut ‘100lbs Of Summer’ above.

"Strangely, Lee had asked to voice a track worked on by classical composer Hugo Bechstein who added piano and strings, quite out of sync with the rest of the set," producer Daniel Boyle said in a statement. "His lyrics have him musing about going back to being a baby and being reborn, when the music stops, he just says ‘goodbye’ – it’s the last song on the album and it’s the last song he recorded."

False Idols will release King Perry on February 2, 2024.
