James Holden has been announced as the latest curator for this year’s Le Guess Who? in Utretcht, joining Perfume Genius, Shabazz Palaces, Grouper and Han Bennink as guest curators at the festival.
Holden’s curated programme will include the likes of Moroccan Gnawa musician Maâlem Houssam Guinia and his band, Bosnian accordion player Mario Batkovic, Hieroglyphic Being, Jerusalem In My Heart, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, Sex Swing, XAM Duo, Ex-Easter Island Head, Shabaka & The Ancestors and a performance from James Holden himself with his newly assembled band The Animal Spirits.
Elsewhere, Cate Le Bon and Lost Horizons, a new project from Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins, join Perfume Genius’ programme, while Gonjasufi has been added to Shabazz Palaces’ curated bill. Grouper has added Tiny Vipers, as well as Coby Sey and Roy Montgomery, and finally drummer Han Bennink has added Thurston Moore, Terrie Ex and Steve Beresford.
Composer and guitarist Patrick Higgins has also been added to the festival’s line-up with the string ensemble of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra joining him for a European premiere of his own piece ‘Hyperborea No. 1’.
Le Guess Who? takes place in Utrecht from November 9-12, with the likes of William Basinski, GAS, Keiji Haino and Jenny Hval already announced to play at the festival. You can find the full line-up and get tickets here.
