Le Guess Who? Announces First 2018 Names

Devendra Banhart and Moor Mother are amongst the guest curators for this year's edition of Le Guess Who? in Utrecht

Le Guess Who? has confirmed its first 77 names for this year’s line-up with Devendra Banhart, Moor Mother, Shabaka Hutchings and director and activist Asia Argento all taking up the role of guest curator.

Devendra Banhart’s programme will see the likes of Vashti Bunyan, Ebo Taylor and Shintaro Sakamoto play live, while Asia Argento has invited The Breeders, Lydia Lunch’s Big Sexy Noise, Vera Sola and Psychic Ills.

Moor Mother will host Art Ensemble of Chicago, a special collaboration between Saul Williams and King Britt, and Islam Chipsy & EEK for her programme, while Shabaka Hutchings has invited Sons of Kemet, BCUC, Kojey Radical and Kadri Gopalnath to play at the festival. Elsewhere, there will be a rare appearance from Beverely Glenn-Copeland on the invitation of both Banhart and Moor Mother.

As ever, the festival will present a number of special commissions with Jerusalem In My Heart set to play alongside an orchestra from Beirut, adapting the classical Egyptian work ‘Ya Garat Al Wadi’. Circuit des Yeux will also present a performance called ‘Reaching For Indigo: Gaia Infinitus’, which will see Haley Fohr play alongside members of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.

On the general bill, there are confirmed appearances from Hailu Mergia, Mudhoney, Colin Stetson, Serpentwithfeet, Manu Delgado and many more.
