Since launching in Utrecht in 2007, Le Guess Who? festival has continually assembled line-ups that highlight boundary-pushing, exciting new music and heritage acts, marking it out as one of Europe’s best festivals.
Now Portuguese platform Canal180 has put together a short film, titled ‘Representing The Underrepresented’, profiling Le Guess Who? and looking at the work and ideas that go into putting it on each year. You can watch the video above.
The film features contributions from a number of artists that have played at the festival in the past – including Shabaka Hutchings, Richard Fearless, Jacco Gardner and Vashti Bunyan – as well as a number of the people involved in organising the festival each year. Amongst the subjects raised in the film is the importance of highlighting music that is underrepresented, the importance of promoting diversity in line-ups, the thorny term ‘world music’ and the role of marketing in the modern festival market.
This year’s Le Guess Who? will run from November 7-10 in Utrecht. The line-up will be released in the coming months, and you can find more information here. Check tQ’s post-event review for 2018’s festival here.
