London Contemporary Music Festival: Starts This Sunday

Pioneering work from Joan La Barbara, Moor Mother and Pauline Oliveros: this year’s LCMF is a goodie.

This year’s London Contemporary Music Festival, celebrating experimental and contemporary music, includes the UK premiere of Pauline Oliveros-scored feminist porn film The Sluts and Goddesses Video Workshop (8 Dec), radical composer and vocalist Joan La Barbara performing a selection of her work from the past 40 years (10 Dec), and a show from poet, activist and musician Moor Mother (9 Dec, pictured above), as well as appearances from Robert Ashley, Elaine Mitchener, Chris Newman, Yasunao Tone and Pan Daijing.

The festival starts with the UK premiere of ‘To Music’, a seven-hour performance piece by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, which turns a Schubert song into a sonic sculpture. Events are happening in the massive underground Ambika P3 in Marylebone, starting on Sunday evening and finishing the following Sunday. More details and tickets here.
