Purely Physical shares its third release

Laila Sakini is a Melbourne-based DJ and producer while Lucy Van, also based in Melbourne, teaches poetry, and together they are responsible for the third release, entitled Figures, on the Purely Physical label. From it, you can hear ‘False Ceiling’ above.

It’s Purely Physical’s first tape release kicking off a series they are calling Teeny Tapes, and listed amongst the descriptions for the record by the label are the following: "Tranquil electronics / speech melody / meditative poetry / guidance." If you’re in need of some soothing to ease you into Monday then, this could be just the ticket.

The project sees Van, who works as a post-doctoral researcher in English and Theatre studies, recite her poems while Sakini shapes music around those poems in the way that she sees fit. The project initially came about as a small hobby with a show devised for a noise and spoken word poetry night which was cancelled. Nonetheless, the pair continued to work together and Figures was born, with Sakini leaking the demos on her NTS guest slots while the two were working together, leading to the pair eventually finishing this EP which is out on June 2. You can pre-order the record here.
