Kronos Quartet have put together a tribute album to the late Sun Ra.
Featuring 13 tracks, Outer Spaceways Incorporated – Kronos Quartet & Friends Meet Sun Ra marks the fourth instalment in the Red Hot & Ra series, a run of tribute records to Sun Ra by AIDS awareness organisation Red Hot’s record label arm. It launched in May 2023 with Nuclear War, and has since taken in the releases SOLAR and The Magic City.
Laurie Anderson, Jlin, Laraaji, RP Boo, 700 Bliss, Armand Hammer and Terry Riley are among the guest acts who appear alongside Kronos Quartet across the latest instalment of the Red Hot & Ra series. To mark the album’s announcement, you can listen to a reworking of Sun Ra’s ‘Daddy’s Gonna Tell You No Lie’, which sees Kronos Quartet combine with Laraaji, above.
Red Hot will release Outer Spaceways Incorporated – Kronos Quartet & Friends Meet Sun Ra on June 21, 2024.
