Tom Scholefield, aka Konx-Om-Pax, is better known for his film and graphic work – including videos for Hudson Mohawke and Kuedo, as well as album artwork for Oneohtrix Point Never, Rustie and King Midas Sound. But where Scholefield’s visual style is typically bright and synthetic, his music – as his debut album for Planet Mu, Regional Surrealism shows – is dank, furtive, and often built from indistinct, murky shapes.
Scholefield will be launching the album in his native Glasgow this Friday (6th July). Support will come from Skam legends and IDM pioneers Team Doyobi – which might seem like an odd pairing at first, until you consider that Doyobi’s music has been equally inspired by and created alongside video work in the past, and their restless experimentalism has at points taken them into similarly murky, occluded territory. The show takes place at the Ivy Bar, and entry is free – flyer below.
