Kode9 has announced details of the release of his first solo album, following on from his past collaborative albums with the late The Spaceape.
Nothing is set for release on November 6, via Hyperdub, and is said to be “obsessed with zeros. The album throws horror soundtracks, sampled library records, and j-pop into a no mans land between grime, early dubstep and Chicago footwork. Mostly instrumental, it zigzags between hypnotic, downcast loops, growling drones, jagged cut-ups of androids gone haywire, threaded through twitchy, transatlantic rhythms and sub-bass inaudible through your laptop speakers.” The album promises a 2015 reboot of the producer’s classic ‘9 Samurai’, while elsewhere there is a track originally intended for The Spaceape’s vocals. In 2016, Kode9 will team up with simulation artist Lawrence Lek to launch a live audiovisual set, entitled ‘The Notel’, which the pair will tour. The album will be launched at Corsica Studios on November 7 with a Hyperdub party featuring sets from Kode9, Scratcha DVA, Ikonika, Cooly G, DJ Spinn, Taso, DJ Paypal and Okzharp.
