King Midas Sound Release ‘Re-versions’ Album

Kevin Martin's lovers' dub project to release Without You through Hyperdub in November

Modern bass maestro Kevin Martin’s King Midas Sound project are to release a new full-length this November. Entitled Without You and released through Hyperdub, it gathers together 15 artists to remix and reinterpret tracks from the trio’s debut album Waiting For You, including the likes of Cooly G, Hype Williams, dubstep originator Mala, Nite Jewel and Gang Gang Dance.

Rather than simply functioning as a remix album, though, Without You instead furthers Martin’s fascination with the dub version (something he’s previously explored on earlier releases as both King Midas Sound and The Bug). Many tracks are re-vocalled takes on the originals, with the likes of dBridge, Ford & Lopatin’s Joel Ford and Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside contributing vocals. Roger Robinson and Kiki Hitomi’s original vocal takes also remain constant fixtures throughout. As well as making for an enjoyably varied listen, Martin’s presence at the helm, both production and curation wise, ensures the entire record is unusually coherent for a remix project.
