Kendrick Lamar Album To Be Archived At Harvard Library

His 2015 album is one of the first four hip-hop LPs to be archived at the institution's library

Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly is one of the first four hip-hop albums to be archived at Harvard Library, with producer 9th Wonder having been tasked with curating the university’s Classic Crates project, highlighting classic hip-hop works.

As XXL reports, 10 albums are set to be archived into the collection each year with the project having begun this year. The project will be complete when 200 albums make up the collection.

To Pimp A Butterfly is the most recently released of the first four albums to be included in the collection, with A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory, Nas’ Illmatic and Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill making up the other three albums currently in the collection.

Each chosen album will be archived in the collection with full liner notes and an original pressing of the record, "to be placed forever in the canon" in the words of 9th Wonder.
