Canadian post-hardcore trio KEN mode are gearing up to release their sixth album Success, a record that, considering the band’s professed touchstones of The Jesus Lizard, Drive Like Jehu and Nirvana, is set to channel the pissed-off guitar heroics of the 90s. It’s even being produced by pissed-off guitar hero Steve Albini.
You can bust out the flannel when the record is released on June 15, courtesy of Season Of Mist, but if you can’t wait to revisit a time when people still used the phrase ‘alternative rock’ and relied on 56k modems to talk online about The X-Files, we have below an exclusive stream of album closer ‘Dead Actors’. It’s an agonised slow burn whose knuckle-dragging rhythms, wounded guitar bends and half spoken-word, half sung-out-of-tune vocals hearken back to the days when Moss Icon and Still Life ruled the emo scene before endless arguments over what wave of emo ruined the scene for everyone ruined the scene for everyone.
