Almost fifteen years after her first album, Kelis will be releasing her sixth, Food, this year. The record’s set for release on April 22 via Ninja Tune, and sees her following a series of collaborations with prolific producers, including Andre 3000 and will.i.am, with another, TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek, and she’s posted her new single from the album, ‘Rumble’, on SoundCloud.
Kelis has never been afraid of using her voice in different capacities, from the raging ‘Caught Out There’ which first got her radio play, to her last album, Flesh Tone, which toyed with tribal beats. ‘Rumble’ does not fit into the vein of any previous release: a slow, horns-heavy track close in style to 60s girl groups, with Kelis’ ever-husky vocals berating a man – have a listen above.
