Quietus favourite Kavus Torabi, the guitarist of avant-pop band Knifeworld, and the label he runs, Believers Roast, have announced that they’ve got a new collaborative album on the way. It’s called The Exquisite Corpse Game, in reference to the Surrealists’ technique for assembling a series of words or images, based on that game where you draw something on a bit of a paper, fold it over and pass it on. Imagine, though, that rather than the vast comic potential of say, a woman’s head on top of a man’s torso, the end-result was an album of interwoven genre-skipping sonic snippets, recorded by a huge cast of collaborators including JG Thirlwell, Appleblim and Max Tundra, and you’ve got the idea.
Each artist was given just 20 seconds of the previous artist’s sonic ‘fold’ to go on, before they had to contribute a one to four-minute-long instrumental passage, and could only hear the final track once all the ‘folds’ had been completed – have a watch of the trailer below:
