New York-based Icelander Úlfur released his debut album Arborescence via the Figureight label last year, its various tracks blending elements of electronic and modern classical music.
Now he’s invited three artists to remix different tracks from the LP: Oren Ambarchi, Alex Somers and Kara-Lis Coverdale. The latter’s remix premieres above and it’s a stunning, loop-driven rework of ‘Serpentine’, which retains the classical elements of the original and sees the composer re-voice the strings on the track.
Born in Luxembourg and raised in Iceland, composer Úlfur received the 2013 Young Composer of the Year award from the International Rostrum of Composers, and his works have been performed by The Icelandic Symphonic Orchestra and Kronos Quartet amongst others. He released his debut album, Arborescence, last year, which centred around long-form pieces and took in vocals, synthesisers and electroacoustic production processes.
The remixes will be released by Figureight on July 20. You can pre-order them here.
