Jonsi Wins First Nordic Music Prize

And tries to cop off with Prince! Not the little fellow, a real one. Photos thanks to Helge Brekke

The Quietus was at the By:Larm music festival and conference this weekend past, and as well as discussions hosted by your Quietus editors John and Luke, plus our friend John Robb, and ace gigs from Deathcrush, Arabrot, 1349, Frisk Frugt and more, there took place the very first Nordic Music Prize, intended, we hear, as the region’s equivalent of the Mercury Prize. The winning record was Jonsi’s Go, with the jury stating "The music of the winner could only have been made here, in the North. It sounds and almost smells like Iceland. It’s brave and life affirming pop music that grabs you by the heart in flamboyant technicolour.". Collecting the prize, Jonsi tried to land a kiss on the Crown Prince of Norway. You can see that below, along the with the full list of nominees. We reckon Frisk Frugt woz robbed!
