Hail! Glad tidings! The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion have announced their tenth studio album! The concisely-titled Freedom Tower – No Wave Dance Party 2015 from Jon Spencer, Judah Bauer and Russell Simins will be hitting shelves on March 23 via Bronze Rat, who put out their last full-length, 2012’s fine Meat+Bone. We’re told that the new record is a trip around their New York City hometown, laced with the band’s trademark "savage funkacide". Precisely, it’s "[l]ike the best sides that percolated up from the Bronx, the Lower East Side, and Greenwich Village across the 1970s and ’80s – Freedom Tower is more than a high-octane dance party record, it is a document of New York City, a chronicle of grit and terror and love! It’s all here: The Hustler and The Trust Fund Baby, the Mosh Pit Casualty, the Celebrity Chef, the Crooked Cop, the Struggling Artist, the Sucker MC, the forgotten Sex Workers and Last-Chance Cinderellas. Within these grooves are cold-water tenements, blue-chip galleries, dingy Avenue B studios, and the last real warrior poet whose dark magick brings garage rock ghosts back from the grave!"
We here at tQHQ couldn’t be more happy about JSBX’s return, and as such we’re really rather chuffed to bring you a first taste in the form of album track ‘Do The Get Down’ – listen to that below and put in your pre-orders via the label, who are offering a natty bundle including the vinyl on hot green wax, a JSBX slip mat and a limited edition tote bag, as well as iTunes, Resident and Rough Trade. Once you’ve done that, read Jon Spencer’s Baker’s Dozen and Julian Marszalek revisiting their fourth album, Orange, last year.
