WATCH: New Jon Mueller Video

Jon Mueller's 'Flame', from his forthcoming album, comes with a hypnotic visual

Next month sees the release of Jon Mueller’s first solo album since 2017, as he returns to the US label SIGE Records operated by recent collaborator Faith Coloccia and Aaron Turner.

Premiering above from Canto is a video for the 14-minute ‘Flame’. Centring around hypnotic, vortex-focused visuals, the clip – which has been put together by graphic designer and artist Kaveh Soofi – provides fitting accompaniment to Mueller’s percussion-led drone experiments.

Canto sees Mueller hone in on his fascination with different percussion instruments, using them alongside vocal techniques that have been informed by his work many years ago with LaMonte Young and Marian Zazeela.

"The driving energy of drums is replaced by deep contemplation and wonder, questions, confusion, darkness and ultimately, calm," Mueller says of this shift in focus on the album.

SIGE Records will release Canto on June 7. It can be pre-ordered here.
