Jon Hopkins Shares New Meditative Piece

"Like so many people I felt pretty paralysed by this situation when it first unfolded," Hopkins says of his recent coronavirus-influenced mindset

Jon Hopkins has shared a new meditative piece of music called ‘Singing Bowl (Ascension)’, which you can watch a video for above.

The 21-minute piece was recorded from sounds made by a 100-year-old singing bowl, and started life as part of a sound installation that Hopkins produced for Helsinki Arts Festival last year.

"Like so many people I felt pretty paralysed by this situation when it first unfolded," Hopkins says of the COVID-19 pandemic which has fed into the series of music. "All my plans for the year were cancelled, and everything felt so weird and dreamlike. But gradually I found I wanted to create something – to find peace and perspective through making music, as I have always done."

‘Singing Bowl (Ascension)’ is out now via Domino. The piece can be heard in full via Spotify.
