Johnny Marr is to make his public debut in the world of academia next month when he gives a lecture at the University of Salford. The former Smiths guitarist was appointed last year to run classes and give talks at the University.
The lecture, which will take place at the University’s Maxwell Hall, the site of one of the Smiths’ last concerts, will be about musical mavericks and innovators.
John Sweeney, from the School of Media, Music, and Performance, described Marr as "the most influential guitarist of the last 25 years. His lecture is a tremendous opportunity for our students and the wider public to benefit from his considerable experience and expertise. It promises to be a really special event."
