Johnny Marr Announces New Album

Playland is out in October, followed by a UK tour

Wasting no time after his debut solo album The Messenger last year, Johnny Marr is already back with his second effort. Playland is out on October 6 via Warners, and is available to pre-order, which will get you a download of the first single ‘Easy Money’ on August 16, now. The record has Marr reuniting with Doviak, his co-producer from The Messenger, alongside his touring band, going straight into the studio earlier this year after the run of shows for that album was wrapped up. Says Marr: "When The Messenger came out I kept on writing. I liked that the band had a momentum going on tour and a connection with the audience, and I thought that energy would be good to capture on the new record. It’s important to sound like your environment and on this record that’s London and Manchester. The feeling of the cities and the people make it into the music." He adds that the album’s name is inspired by Dutch cultural theorist Johan Huizinga’s 1938 book Homo ludens.

Marr will be touring the UK in support of the record, starting off at The Engine Shed in Lincoln on October 13; head to his website for full details of the dates and album pre-orders, and read out interview with him from 2012 here.
